About us...
The Emmanuel Baptist Church began as the East Side Baptist Mission. The first services were held on Sunday, May 22, 1960. An arm was extended to the Lakewood Baptist Church of Garland. The services were held in a rented house on 713 Wallace Drive. This later became the first property to be purchased by the church on September 10, 1960.
The mission was organized into the Emmanuel Baptist Church on September 11, 1960. Twenty-two letters were presented to be accepted as charter members of the church. Brother Joe Huston was called as a pastor at the organzational services and served in this capacity until March of 1965. On March 21, 1965, Brother W. L. Swelling accepted pastorate of the church serving through September of 1967. On November 19, 1967, Brother A. F. Sanders accepted the church and served as pastor until 1986. Brother W. L. Swelling returned as pastor in 1986 and served until 1996. In 1996, Brother Mark Ballard came to serve as pastor until June of 2017.
On October 1 of this 2017, we welcomed a new pastor, Scott Terrell.
